Content:
The course will explore different approaches to couple counselling, including systemic, transpersonal, psychodynamic and the Contextual approach developed by Nick Duffell and Helena Loevendal Soerensen of the Centre for Gender Psychology.

The approach to learning is consistent with other Inter-Psyche courses in that it will require students to explore their own experience of, and beliefs about, relationships and the connection between their family history and their present style of relating. We will also spend time exploring gender and sexual issues and the impact these have on the kind of relationship problems which may be presented in couple counselling sessions.

We will pay special attention to the differences between individual counselling and couple counselling. Whilst some of the basic principles of the work are the same, there are some important differences which need to be recognised.

Assessment
:
Assessment will consist of one essay, a case study, a supervision report and a dissertation. There will also be opportunities for self, peer and tutor assessment during the course. You will also be required to complete 50 hours of couples work as part of the course.
